Scuba Monkey Dive Club – Yearly Recap - Avon

What a full year we’ve had in the Club. We had some great dives at Fanning Springs, Royal Springs, Manatee Springs, Buford, Rainbow River, Devils Den, a full group trip to Fiji!

We also welcomed some great speakers to our club meetings in 2025 including Erin Jaszczak  from the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation and Michael Anderson with the Aquarium Divers for Coral Society.   We also had club members Avon Haury, Tommy Brown and George Sherrard provide presentations on accident analysis, dive computer algorithms, dive equipment care and maintenance, dive travel tips and tricks and an introduction to underwater photography.

The Dive Club also put on many special events ranging from a dive skills day at the springs, a great chili cook-out picnic and a few nights on the town sharing stories and some beverages.  We also had the popular night dive Easter Egg hunt, pool skills night and Bubble-lympics to round out the year.

We had club members go to Nokomis Beach to hunt down shark teeth, a group make the long trek to Buford for a hundredth dive, one member sent some great pics from Tahiti, and more than one group make dives at Blue Heron Bridge in Riviera Beach.   Here’s hoping all members get to make some new dives in 2026. 

All in all the club fulfilled the goal of providing club members with activities that focus on the environment, dive education, dive experiences and diving equipment and we look forward to more in 2026.

 

Dive Club Membership updates: Similar to last January we are working on all accounts to make sure each club member is at the appropriate tier for 2026.  Part of the rollout will be cleaning data and removing non-participants from the Facebook group. If you see something that looks to be in error with your profile or participation level, etc., please let Avon  or Tim know.   A full explanation of the tiers and discounts is on the Scuba Monkey Dive Center site under Events and then Dive Club. Tim and Avon would like all members to provide feedback on the new look/feel of the club webpages.  We’re trying to make this beneficial and informative but need member input.

 

Dive Shop Activities/Travel/Classes

  • Several changes have been made to the Scuba Monkey Webpage.  Locations of the travel section, training section, and Dive Club have been made. https://scubamonkeydivecenter.com/
  • Travel.  We’ve found another resort in Cozumel that we hope will be similar to our regular stop there so Cozumel is back on for spring, with Roatan in the fall.  These trips are both all-inclusive dive vacations (although non-divers are welcome too) to two of the best dive locations in the world.  Dates are below with additional details on the menu bar to the right. 

  • Cozumel Mexico – 5/23/2026 - 5/30/2026.

  • Roatan Honduras – 10/10/2026 – 10/17/2026.

    • Advanced Buoyancy Control – January 11th.  Troy Springs
    • CPR – January 14th in the shop
    • SDI – Solo Diver course – March 14th & 15th.

  • Aquarium Diver’s for Coral Restoration – Looking at June timeframe for a Scuba Monkey volunteer effort.
